ANC–BNC Titrations and Geochemical Modeling for Characterizing Calcareous and Siliceous Mining Waste

Pyrite and calcite are mineral phases that play a major role in acid neutral mine drainage processes. However, the prediction of (AMD) or contaminated (CND) requires knowledge composition mining waste related potential for element release. This paper studies combination acid–base neutralizing capacity (ANC–BNC) with geochemical modeling characterization AMD CND. The proposed approach is validated three synthetic assemblages: (1) siliceous sand pyrite only, representing responsible AMD, (2) pyrite, calcareous CND, (3) simulating matrices without any pyrite. using PHREEQC software was used to model pH evolution main release as function added amount base over entire range: 1 < 13.
